Terry Whalen and Hot Powder - Bio

Terry Whalen and Hot Powder formally known as The Terry Whalen Band (TWB) formed in the spring of 2007;after the completion of Terry's first CD - Terry Whalen - Sleepwalker's Blues.  After 20 years of threatening to focus on original music Terry, at 43 years of age finally made the leap.  In the picturesque Miramichi, there was very few examples of musicians focusing on original music but it was of little concern and so the journey began.

Without a blueprint, Terry started writing music in his basement studio with Stephen MacKnight. Little did Terry know a chance meeting with Stephen in the fall of 2006 would take them both on a  journey neither could have envisioned.  This partnership would grow into multiple CD's of original material and few years into the future lead them to a place where then TWB were now a mainstay on the east coast music scene.

In 2008 their second CD - The Devil's Fireplace was nominated for a 2009 ECMA for Blues Recording of the Year, a year later their third CD - A Wicked Driving Rain received another ECMA nomination and then a third ECMA nomination two years later for their 4th CD - A Work in Progress.   Along the way they also collected two Music NB Awards for Blues Recording of the Year in 2012 and 2015, first for A Work in Progress and then for their 5th CD - Two Steps Forward.

TWB have been a regular on the East Coast festival scene, sharing the stage with a veritable who's who including Blue Rodeo, Johnny Lang, James Cotton, Robert Cray, Delbert McClinton, John Oates Band, MonkeyJunk, David Wilcox and east coast stalwarts - Garrett Mason, Pretty Archie, The Town Heroes, Charlie A'Court, Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Morgan Davis, Dan Doiron, The Hupman Brothers, Sam Moon, Keith Hallett, Matt Minglewood, Comedien Gerry Dee, McGinty, The Divorcees, Dave Gunning, Carson Downey, Christina Martin, David Myles, and Ron Hynes..actually the list goes on.

The Terry Whalen Band has been compared to early ZZ Top, but what you will hear is one-of-a-king sound from front man Terry Whalen and a band that delivers an original blend of blues and rock that will leave you wanting more.

The Terry Whalen Band line-up includes - Terry Whalen - Lead Vocals and Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Terry James Whalen - Bass Guitar, and Phil Sutherland - Drums
